glycolysis medical dictionary

<biochemistry> The conversion of a monosaccharide (generally glucose) to pyruvate via the glycolytic pathway (i.e. The Embden Meyerhof Parnas pathway) in the cytosol.

Generates ATP without consuming oxygen and is thus anaerobic.
