A fine, strong fibre obtained from the young leaves of a Brazilian palm (Astrocaryum vulgare), used for cordage, bowstrings, etc.; also, the plant yielding this fibre.

Synonyms: tecum, and tecum fibre.

Origin: So called by the Indians of Brazil.
