Glycero l esterified at each of its three hydroxyl groups by a fatty (aliphatic) acid; e.g., tristearoylglycerol.
Synonyms: fat, triglyceride.
Triacylglycerol lipase, the fat-splitting enzyme in pancreatic juice; it hydrolyzes triacylglycerol to produce a diacylglycerol and a fatty acid anion; a deficiency of the hepatic enzyme results in hypercholesterolaemia and hypertriglyceridemia.
Synonyms: steapsin, tributyrase, tributyrinase.
