<surgery> Usually a synthetic based line that is minimally reactive in biological tissue. Commonly used are nylon, Prolene and gut. Absorbable suture will dissolve over time (Vicryl and chromic).
The choice in thickness (strength) of the suture is based on the location sutured. Fine suture is used for work around the eyes, face and digits.
