<nephrology> A variety of nephritis characterised by inflammation of the capillary loops in the glomeruli of the kidney. It occurs in acute, subacute and chronic forms and may be secondary to haemolytic streptococcal infection. Evidence also supports possible immune or autoimmune mechanisms.
