<cardiology> A valve used to replace a human valve, typically of the heart. They are divided into mechanical and tissue valves. The tissue is divided into homografts and heterografts.

There are many different types of prosthetic valves, including the Saint Jude valve, Hancock valve, Starr-Edwards valve, and Carpentier-Edwards valve.
