A method of learning in which students evaluate their thinking and progress while solving problems. This has a specific goal which must be achieved as a result of the learning situation.
During the process of solving the problem, students may incorporate other learning as a result of discussion, knowledge discovery, knowledge exploration and developing strategies to determine the solution. Additional problems and new questions can arise within the context of their investigation.

IBM jargon for user mode, the opposite of "supervisor state".
On IBM System 360, 370 and 390 mainframes privileged instructions may only be executed in "supervisor state". Application programs request the operating system to perform these operations by using the Supervisor Call (SVC) instruction.
