<cell biology> Trypsin like serine protease that is responsible for digesting fibrin in blood clots. Generated from plasminogen by the action of another protease, plasminogen activator.
The enzyme catalyses the hydrolysis of peptide bonds at the carbonyl end of lysine or arginine residues. It also acts on activated Hagemann factor and on complement.
