<cell biology, protein> A family of integral plasma membrane proteins which, when overexpressed, function as adenosine triphosphate-dependent efflux pumps, causing multidrug resistance.
Mammalian p-glycoproteins are encoded by small mdr gene families. There are several isotypes in multiple species.
