<cell biology> An enzyme the catalyses the degradation of insulin, glucagon and other polypeptides. It is inhibited by bacitracin, chelating agents edta and 1,10-phenanthroline, and by thiol-blocking reagents such as n-ethylmaleimide, but not phosphoramidon. (eur j biochem 1994;223:1-5)
