One of several indole alkaloids extracted from tabernanthe iboga, baill. It is a hallucinogen and is being investigated for treatment of drug addiction, especially cocaine addiction. The mechanisms of action are not clear, but ibogaine probably interacts with opioid receptors and may be a neurotoxin.
