Proteins encoded by homeobox genes (genes, homeobox) that exhibit structural similarity to certain prokaryotic and eukaryotic DNA-binding proteins. Homeodomain proteins are involved in the control of gene expression during morphogenesis and development (gene expression regulation, developmental).
