<microbiology> Fungi are organisms that lack chlorophyll and live as saprobes or parasites. They include mushrooms, yeasts, smuts, slime moulds, rusts, mildews, stinkhorns, puffballs, truffles and yeasts.
The fungi are classified together as they absorb food in solution directly through their cell walls and reproduce through spores. None of these organisms conduct photosynthesis as they lack chlorophyll.
