<oncogene>
A proto-oncogene that causes leukaemias in chickens.
It is found in E26 transforming retrovirus (v-ets) of chickens and encodes a nuclear protein that can bind DNA and regulates the initiation of transcription from a range of cellular and viral promoter and enhancer elements which may help activate and proliferate T lymphocyte cells. There is some interaction between ets and AP1.
