| dolerite | medical dictionary |
<geology> A dark-coloured, basic, igneous rock, composed essentially of pyroxene and a triclinic feldspar with magnetic iron. By many authors it is considered equivalent to a coarse-grained basalt.
Origin: Gr. Deceitful; because it was easily confounded with diorite.
