Visceral branches of the sympathetic trunks conveying postsynaptic sympathetic fibres to and visceral afferent fibres from viscera located above the diaphragm, mainly via the cardiac, pulmonary, and oesophageal plexuses. The cervical and upper thoracic splanchnic nerves are part of this group.
