<chemistry> A poweful vegetable alkaloid, found, associated with strychnine, in the seeds of different species of Strychnos, especially in the Nux vomica. It is less powerful than strychnine.

Synonyms: brucia and brucina.

Origin: Cf. F. Brucine, fr. James Bruce, a Scottish traveler.
