<microbiology> A parasitic disease affecting mammals which is caused by protozoa from the genus Babesia of the order Piroplasmida and is transmitted by ticks. The Babesia protozoa feed on the blood of mammals.
Symptoms include high fever, anaemia, and red urine (haemoglobinuria).
