<virology> A single stranded RNA virus which is spread via Arthropods and is transmitted in their saliva to the definitive host.
The virus has an envelope surrounding the capsid and can multiply in both the invertebrate and vertebrate host producing diseases such as; yellow fever and encephalitis.
Examples include: Togaviridae, Bunyaviridae and Arenaviridae.
