<prefix>
1. A prefix in many words of Latin origin. It signifies from, away, separating, or departure.
Examples include; abduct, abstract, abscond, abnormal, abuse.
Used as abs- before c, q, and t; often a- before m, p, or v.
2. Applied to electrical units in the CGS-electromagnetic system to distinguish them from units in the CGS-electrostatic system (prefix stat-) and those in the metric system or SI system (no prefix).
