1. <bacteria>
<microbiology> Genus of highly motile gram-negative bacteria. They are found largely in soil but are also found in the intestine of humans. They are opportunistic pathogens, Proteus mirabilis is a major cause of urinary tract infections.
2. <zoology> An urodele amphibian. It is a cave dweller and is blind, has external gills and lacks any pigment.
