An identifiable physical location on a chromosome (for example, restriction enzyme cuttingsite, gene) whose inheritance can bemonitored. Markers can beexpressed regions of DNA (genes) or some segment of DNA with no knowncoding function but whose pattern of inheritance can be determined.
