1. Sovereign or supreme authority; the power of governing and controlling; independent right of possession, use, and control; sovereignty; supremacy. 2. Superior prominence; predominance; ascendency. "Objects placed foremost ought . . . Have dominion over things confused and transient." (Dryden)
