<cell biology> Found in mutt protein of E coli and in humans; hydrolyzes 8-oxodGTP to 8-oxodgmp; also degrades dGTP and datp to dgmp and damp, respectively; mw 18 kD; prevents a.t to c.g transversion caused by 8-oxodGTP, which forms spontaneously in nucleotide pool of E coli; mutant form with met replacing val at position 83 may be antimutagenic for human cancer
