Postby mondo mod » Tue Jan 20, 2009 5:22 pm

With the launch of study skills, we thought it was necessary to set up a page for each category.

Please use this topic to ask your study skills questions, and let us know what you like, don't like and what you'd like us to add

Thanks

heeeeey,i will b goin to join in first yr mbbs
i hav a few doubts abt the study technique
1. how can we remember such a vast text ,??????
2. so for remembering it should we
i) first take the reading then start a bit of learning then reading it atleast 7 times and may be note it down(if done everydays work on that day then that wouldnt b that difficult)
ii) practicals will surely help but remembering so much and for doin that keeping on revising which wont even finish on the exam day would be difficult
SO HOW TO GO ABT IT AND FROM STARTING MAKING MY SCEDULE AND THE WAY CORRECT SHOULD HELP

Hi Neepa,

You're right that there's an awful lot to learn for a medical degree! The first thing to remember is that you won't be expected to remember everything. Take a look at our study skills topic how to succeed at exams for medics (http://www.mondofacto.com/study-skills/exams/how-to-succeed-at-exams-for-medics/) , it will give you some good advice on what to focus on. There's also good advice in the how to revise topic (http://www.mondofacto.com/study-skills/exams/how-to-revise/).

Learning 'parrot fashion' is hard work, boring and won't help you remember anything long-term. For those things you do need to remember, the best way to recall something is to make sure you really understand it. Again, there's advice on how to do this in 'how to revise for medics'.

Getting organised from an early stage in your course will also be key to your success. Take a look at our time management (http://www.mondofacto.com/study-skills/study/time-management/index.html) topic for tips on how to make the most of your time.

Hope this helps - let us know how you get on and shout out if you need more advice.

Any medics out there with tips on how to cope with studying medicine, we'd love to hear from you.
