Designing the learning

Once you have assessed your requirements, we can help you get the design right for a successful outcome. We can ensure that:

Developing the course aims

We will work with you to compile course aims that are relevant, precise, complete and achievable.

Questions ?

Curriuclum planning

We can help you to plan a curriculum that addresses all your course aims and objectives, and that is achievable with the time and resources available to you.

We believe that every curriculum should tell a story! Your course needs to be delivered in a way that allows students to see the links between topics and concepts, and to build on their understanding throughout the course. We can suggest several 'story' options, and work with you to select the best option for your course.

Course mapping allows you to develop your students' skills across the skills hierarchy. For many courses, the first 20% of learning sessions will involve lower level learning objectives that require low cognitive level tasks, such as guided reading or guided knowledge discovery; this allows students to build a strong foundation of knowledge, before going on to complete higher level tasks, such as knowledge application or evaluation of evidence.

We recognise how important feedback is for both students and staff. We can ensure that feedback mechanisms are built in at appropriate stages in your course. If required, we can train your staff to give feedback.

Questions ?

Developing learning objectives

Good learning objectives must be specific, measurable by assessment, contribute to the course aims, and be at the correct cognitive level. Learning objectives allow you to measure whether your course is delivering the intended learning outcomes – and allow your students to assess their own learning. We can work with you to write learning objectives for each of your learning sessions. Get these right and they are the foundation for a successful project.

Questions ?

Developing an assessment strategy

Assessments should always be congruent with the learning objectives, the learning activities and the learning methods and should to test whether the course learning objectives have been achieved. We can help you develop many forms of assessment, from selection style questions (MCQ, EMQ etc.), to essay questions, presentations, assessed learning portfolios, scored discussion forums, clinical evaluation and beyond. We can help you to develop formative assessments at appropriate stages of the course, as well as a summative assessment to determine performance agains the curriculum.

Questions ?

Developing the instructional design

We develop distance learning courses, face-to-face learning, or courses that can be delivered using a blended approach combining both face-to-face and learning at a distance. We haveDo staff have the skills to deliver the course using the chosen instructional strategy? Has support for the delivery system been agreed? expertise in converting face-to-face courses to online courses, allowing you to make your most successful courses available to a wider market.

If you are running a distance learning course, we can offer you guidance on your course delivery system. Many organisations run their own learning management systems (LMS), or Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). We can train your staff to use your existing LMS to deliver an online course, or we can help you to select the best one for your requirements.
